Chhattisgarh Amends Policy to Boost Investment

Must Read

The Chhattisgarh government has approved key amendments to its Industrial Development Policy 2024–30 in a bid to attract investment, boost local employment, and modernise its industrial base. The decision was finalised at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on May 15.

Originally notified in February 2024, the Industrial Development Policy was designed to align with Amrit Kaal: Chhattisgarh Vision 2047 and had provisions for periodic reviews. The updated version aims to make the policy more inclusive, employment-oriented, and aligned with sector-specific growth goals.

Incentives for hiring locals, tech-driven farming, and tourism

One of the major revisions includes incentives for industries that employ residents of Chhattisgarh. The government will offer grants to such enterprises, reinforcing the link between industrial activity and regional job creation.

Modern farming methods such as hydroponics and aeroponics will also be promoted, along with the use of automation and IoT in agriculture. These technologies are expected to support productivity and benefit farmers with better access to precision-based tools.

To encourage tourism, especially in tribal regions, the minimum investment threshold for developing hotels and resorts in Bastar and Surguja has been lowered. This is expected to create jobs for local populations and stimulate regional economies.

Textile, logistics, and infrastructure support expanded

The revised policy doubles down on support for the textile industry, offering incentives of up to 200% for investments in the sector. This move is expected to benefit a wide range of workers including tailors, embroiderers, and knitters.

Chhattisgarh also aims to position itself as a logistics hub by drafting a dedicated logistics policy. Enhanced infrastructure support for private industrial parks, plug-and-play factory setups, and a special package for defence and aerospace sectors have been proposed.

In a notable inclusion, the amended policy expands the definition of Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) to ensure they receive enhanced benefits from industrial schemes. Additionally, the Global Capability Centre model will be explored to bring in high-end services and innovation.

These amendments reflect the state’s intent to balance industrial expansion with inclusive growth, while positioning itself competitively on the national investment map.
