The Assam Cabinet has approved investment agreements worth over ₹1.22 lakh crore, paving the way for major projects to be formalized at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Infrastructure and Investment Summit in Guwahati on February 25-26.
Strategic Investments for Economic Growth
The summit aims to attract substantial investments across multiple sectors, strengthening Assam’s industrial and economic landscape. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that only credible investment proposals were considered, with the government rejecting MoUs worth ₹45,000 crore to avoid speculative agreements and unrealistic commitments.
“We do not want to encourage casual deals that create false expectations. Our focus is on genuine and impactful investments,” Sarma stated.
Key Highlights of Advantage Assam 2.0
- District-Level Projects: Over 2,590 MoUs valued at ₹15,911 crore will be signed at district locations for projects under ₹50 crore, ensuring localized development.
- Focus on Employment & Technology Transfer: While some agreements involve financial investments, others prioritize technology adoption and job creation for local youth.
- Industry and Government Participation: The summit will feature leading industry figures, Union ministers, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has arrived to participate in key sessions and engage with stakeholders.
