With help from the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Skill India held a one-day ‘Apprenticeship Mela’ in over 660 places across the country.
Nearly 51,991 apprentices were hired as a result of the project, and the event drew more than 5000 companies from more than 30 industries, including power, retail, telecommunications, IT/ITeS, electronics, automotive, and more.
In addition, the country’s aspiring youth were given the option to engage with and select prospects from over 500 trades (Designated and Optional), including positions such as Welder, Electrician, Housekeeper, Beautician, Mechanic, and others.
Being a part of the Apprenticeship Mela provided the applicants with various advantages, including on-the-spot apprenticeship offers from their individual businesses as well as direct industry exposure.
They were given monthly stipends ranging from INR 5000 to INR 9000 per month, according to government regulations. Candidates will also receive accreditation from the National Council for Vocational Education and Course (NCVET), which will improve their prospects of finding work following the training.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship had an amazing response from candidates at the Apprenticeship Mela, according to Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary. This demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to providing adequate training in market-relevant skills to India’s youth.
He believed that by hiring over 52,000 apprentices during the event, we would be able to raise the country’s skilling levels and accomplish the vision of a “Skilled India.”
Important organizations as Railways, ONGC, Tata, Maruti Udyog, and others took part in the event. Apprentices were also employed at the event by small-scale industries with at least four working employees.
Students from grades 5th to 12th, as well as holders of a Skill Training Certificate, ITI students, Diploma holders, and graduates, took part in the event.
The goal is to bridge the gap between supply and demand for qualified workers and to meet the expectations of Indian youth by providing on-the-job training and better career possibilities.
