Comprehensive Policy for Development Of Animal Husbandry Sector

The Government announced a comprehensive policy namely “National Livestock Policy 2013” for development of animal husbandry sector. The Government is implementing various schemes for development of animal husbandry sector across the country as under:

  1. Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM)
  2.  National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) .
  3. Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF)
  4. Supporting Dairy Cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organizations engaged in dairy activities (SDC&FPO)
  5.  National Livestock Mission (NLM) vi
  6.  Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF)
  7.  Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH & DC) viii. National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP)

Under National Livestock Mission, central assistance has been provided for Conservation of Threatened breeds of Livestock of Kachhi Sindhi Horse breed and Genetic improvement of Kutchi, Mehsana and Surati Goat. Government of Gujarat has established 05 Intensive Sheep Development Programme with 86 service centres, 06 District Sheep & Wool Extension Programme with 91 service centres, 04 Sheep Breeding Farms, 05 Goat Breeding Farms, 02 Sheep Centres for migratory flocks, 01 Wool Analysis Lab, 01 Wool Grading Centre, 05 ram depots, 01 National Demonstration Unit for Goats and 01 Integrated Sheep & Wool Development Project in the State of Gujarat.

Government of Gujarat has established 01 Camel Breeding Farm, 02 Horse Breeding Farms, 01 Horse and Donkey Breeding Farm along with 12 Stallion Service Centres in State of Gujarat. With Central Government assistance, Projects and Infrastructure for procurement and processing of Camel Milk has been taken up by the State of Gujarat. (c) Government of Gujarat has established 02 Regional Poultry Breeding Farms, 09 District Poultry Breeding Farms, 04 Poultry Demonstration Centres, 07 Chick Rearing Centres, 05 Hatcheries, 04 Broiler Farms, 05 Layer Farms, 12 Intensive Poultry Development Programmes with 20 Service centres, 05 Poultry Feed Compounding Units, 01 Poultry Feed Testing Laboratory, 02 Poultry Disease Diagnosis Laboratories and 17 Poultry Farmer’s Training Centres in the State of Gujarat.
