‘Momspreneur’ The Evolving Journey of Mom’s turning to Successful Entrepreneur’s

Today we pay our deepest respect to these ‘Stars’ who have given entrepreneurship a new dimension ‘Momspreneur’’.

In recent years as a society, we evolved in many ways and one of the core reasons to this growth can be attributed to our mom’s. In making us successful our mom’s encounter lot of hardship and challenges to make our lives better and grow keeping her cool intact.

The multitasking Moms widely known as ‘Momspreneur’ have arrived, turning into entrepreneur where on one hand we see them managing their homes, changing diapers of their babies, taking care of family, on other hand also has a laptop , excel sheet opened, managing figures and checking their emails.  ‘Momspreneur’ are now running their own business and managing a whole range of activities from marketing, to planning and managing their staffs, striving hard to reach their goals. As we see in this decade there are a whole bunch of successful Entreprenurs who are simultaneously running their home, managing offices and undertaking as owners.

What it takes to be successful Momspreneurs?

The answer lies in their ability to multitask helping them when they turn into entrepreneur because one need to nurture, care and grow the brand like own child with a lot of patience and dedication.

In India, as per various research reports there are 15.7 million women owned enterprises. 69% are solo and providing employment to a massive chunk of population which is between 22% to 27%

In between 2007 – 2017 the total number of businesses across the US increased by 9%, the number of women-owned firms increased by 45%—a rate five times the national average. Most of the women led business holds account for 30% of privately held companies in the US.

The reports prove, if provided with equal access to inputs and resources, women-owned enterprises produce equally strong outcomes when compared to those led by men. In the last decade women owned enterprises increased from 14 to 20%, as per government sources as most of these women are ‘Momspreneurs’ also home makers who have kids and other things to take care of.

Here we take a look at few success stories of ‘Momspreneurs’ who made it big:

Upma Kapoor, Owner, Teal & Terra

Upma Kapoor, started the personal body care a startup with 8lakhs, in 2017. Her journey is an inspiration to many women who overcame the journey of life with sheer grit and determination. Upma‘s story is an inspiration to many, being a single mother to her son simultaneously facing the struggles of market and competitors. In very short span of time Upma’s brand Teal & Terra made space in the organic beauty industry in India. The start-up venture’s product manufacturing is done mostly in Gurugram & Delhi. The Onion Hair oil is the brands most sought after products.

Monisha Narke, CEO- RUR Greenlife

RUR Greenlife is an initiative to protect our environment which is fast reducing in green resources, a pioneer Waste Management company that aims to educate citizens being more eco conscious.

The business model operates in two ways. Business to Business (B2B model) and Business to customer model (B2C), where in gathering of Tetra pack waste, cleaning and flattening it and further recycle the waste into usable products.
Monisha has designed an innovative aerobic Bio composter which has Indian Patent and GreenPro certified by Indian Green Building Council. The technology won Bronze Excellence award on international platform by SWANA (solid waste association of North America) ensuring 100% aerobic, non-electricity dependent, Hygienic and manual solution.

Monisha started RuR Greenlife in 2009 aiming to bring in sustainability through recycling program.

Monisha is a master’s graduate in Industrial and engineering sciences from Standford University and a proud mother of two grown up kids.

Shruti A, Founder Hapup

Shruti started her journey in the world of entrepreneurship, when she became mom to a toddler and felt the need to have more options for toddlers available in shops and marketplaces and she was all confused what would be best for her infant.

Hapup was started in the year 2018, the website was launched in 2019, answering some of the basic questions and mothers often look to incorporate right kind of diet for their babies and infants.

The aim was to provide infants and toddlers with naturally made, loved and food that is safe to consume and Shruti being herself a mom understood the requirements often mom’s struggle to find

Hapup made its mark with three products and Hapup Sprouted Nutri Mix, Hapup Sprouted Super Mix and the Hapup Sprouted Ragi Mix, which are available in their website. The company Hapup is incubated by the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad, and was selected from 400 startups for a government funding.

The venture mainly sources ingredients from organization’s like Timbaktu Collective and is working with scientists and researchers from the National Institute of Nutrition and IIMR to improve sourcing and build operations on wider scale.

Suchi Mukherjee, Founder & CEO Lime Road

Suchi Mukherjee created one of the most successful women’s only marketplaces in South-east Asia. Mukherjee is a mother to two kids and a successful Momspreneur who got voted in 2011 in Global women’s Forum as No1 among 15 rising Talent global leaders under 40.

Lime Road received the coolest startup of the year award from Business Today group in 2015.

Suchi is an inspiration other women entrepreneurs who are married and have family and want to create a name for them. Suchi concentrated on women-centric fashion e-commerce platform and worked very hard to bring Lime Road where it is today.

In 2018, Suchi was in stage with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi at the “Start-up India-Stand up India” conference. Her journey towards Momspreneur was not easy and she worked hard to establish Lime Road as one of the leading ecommerce platforms, when her son was just 1 year old and she had to manage her family, travelling for work and establishing the brand.

Suchi’s success mantra is to be consistent in doing what we do and creating something unique is a part of that journey. Suchi Mukherjee i started her career at the age of 25, working with investment banker at Lehman Brothers for 5 years. Then she moved to work for Virgin Media and later joined eBay, the US e-commerce giant.

Now more women are achieving their goals of running their own business and taking ownership at the same time being able to achieve balance between their goals and family lives.
