Google CEO, Sundar Pichai is in the country and he has brought some good news for the SMEs. At a technology event he hosted in New Delhi on January 4, Pichai announced a digital training program by the name of Digital Unlocked for the SMBs in India. The training program which offers online and mobile courses is certified by Google in collaboration with the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. It is open to all small businesses and startups. The aim of Digital Unlocked is to impart 5,000 training workshops in a course of 3 years in almost 40 cities of the country.
Pichai spoke passionately about the importance of small businesses the country, saying that they are the backbone of India. He explained that internet is for everyone. This Google endeavour may help a number of SMEs take advantage of the training program and improve their business outcomes. While most of it is speculative for now, another Google initiative that was announced at the same event is My Business Website.
At this time, a very small number of SMEs in India have created a website of their own and maintain an online presence. With My Business Website, more SMEs will be empowered to create a responsive website of their own.
Google’s Launchpad Accelerator was a successful venture by the tech giant and many startups in India have taken advantage of this program. With two new programs by Google to assist startups and SMEs, the future of SMBs looks bright for now.
