Tool rooms and Technical Institutions for MSME sector

Must Read

The Government of India has made Tool rooms and many provisions for
the development of the MSME ecosystem. It is a known fact that MSMEs
contribute largely to the GDP of the country by facilitating the
production and export of variety of products and services. There has
recently been a surge in the number of MSME registrations in the
country. This is primarily due to the availability of variety of schemes
that have been set up in the past few years. These Infrastructure
schemes help the budding and new entrepreneurs to set up their
businesses and contribute to the MSME ecosystem. One of the most
essential elements of developing this sector further is the improvement
in Infrastructure development for facilitating better means of
operations for the MSMEs.

There are many efforts currently taken by the Government to provide
the right stimulus for the growth of the MSME sector in India more
specifically with the sole objective of helping to improve the current
infrastructure setup and in doing so they have immensely contributed
towards the sector by maintaining and managing Tool rooms at
Aurangabad, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Hyderabad,
Indore, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. These tool rooms
are very instrumental in providing service to the Indian MSME industry
by introducing ways of precision tooling and providing skilled
manpower in the areas of dye making. The establishment of the
technical institutions led to a new era in the field of tooling and other
co-related activities in India.

All of these tools rooms are highly proficient in mould and dye making
technology and promote precision and quality in development and
manufacturing of sophisticated types of moulds, tools and dyes. Each
Tool Room has achieved the apex position in its respective region.
These tool rooms are equipped with the best of the recent
technological advancements in the field and are also periodically
updated with newer technologies like CAD/CAM, CNC machining for
Tooling, Vacuum Heat Treatment, Rapid Prototyping, etc.

The Tool Rooms are concentrating on an Integrated Development of
the related segments of industries by way of providing International
Quality Tools, Trained Personnel and Consultancy in tooling and related
areas and are constantly crossing new frontiers in the quest for
excellence and beyond. The Tool Rooms have also developed special
training programmes to meet the requirements at international level.
Tool Rooms are conducting training programmes for international
participates sponsored under various agreements to Govt. of India like
Technical Co-operation Scheme of Colombo (TCS), Special
Commonwealth African Assistant Programme (SCAAP), Indian Technical
and Economic Co-operation (ITEC), Aid to Sri Lanka etc. in the areas of
Tool Design, Manufacture, Low Cost Automation, CAD/CAM etc. The
participants from all over the globe are undergoing the training.
The quality standards of the tool rooms are top notch. All of them are
ISO 9001 – 2000 certified institutions and few of them are ISO -14000
and OHSAS – 18000 certified. The facilities provided by the tool rooms
allow for the design and manufacture of sophisticated medium and
small-sized tools. The tools that are available for usage are in
conformity with the International standards. The latest hardware and
software ensures the professional design of tools and 3D solid
modeling. Surface modeling and analysis for the product development
along with reverse engineering and rapid prototyping are additional
features. This has led to the increase in the standards of the overall
infrastructure development. The production centres of the tool rooms
offer a wide range of cutting edge production services. Services like
manufacture of moulds, press tools, fixtures, gauges, jigs, dye casting,
manufacturing of standards parts and components and carrying out
other job work that require precision skills.

The Infrastructure Development Program has been a very fruitful step
in this regard and helped facilitate the better functioning of the MSME
industry. Infrastructure schemes in India always played a major role in
helping the MSME ecosystem thrive despite various circumstances. The
technical institutions under the schemes help in promoting the
awareness by educating a specific class of workers from the sector and
help in making them more skilled towards the work that they are
currently doing. For effective utilization of the high-tech facilities each
Production Centre relies on a team of experienced specialists: design
and production engineers, plant supervisors, foremen, and skilled
workers, e.g. tool and dye makers, fitters and machine operators.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development India has been on the
forefront to accomplish the mission to improve the Infrastructure of
the MSMEs by introducing variety of Infrastructure schemes that are
beneficial for the workers in this sector. Newer entrants have
acknowledged that the barrier to entry has significantly reduced from
the past and more people are genuinely interested to work in this
sector. The Technical institutions have proved their mettle in solving
the basic problems of the workers in this sector. The improvement in
the infrastructure development is commendable.

Infrastructure development and capacity building is one of the most
essential factors that contribute towards the growth of the MSME
sector as a whole. The tool rooms over the years have developed
expertise in various aspects of tool engineering including skill
development and in conducting surveys and studies to identify the
tooling and related skill requirements in particular areas, region or in
the country. Providing turnkey assistance to set up Tool Room &
Training Centres. Assistance in product design, tool design and
manufacturing of intricate toolings. The efforts of the Ministry of
Infrastructure development India by introducing the Infrastructure
schemes has led to overall development in the quality standards
produced by the sector. It is thus important to remember the
contribution of each and every individual responsible to bring about
this lasting change for the sector.
The future growth prospects of this sector relies on the efforts by the
people involved in the MSME sector and their contribution towards the
betterment and inclusivity will lead the MSME sector scale more and
thus become a primary reason for driving the GDP growth of the
country.
