GeM and Madhya Pradesh Strengthen Procurement Partnership

Must Read

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has intensified its collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh to strengthen the State’s adoption and utilisation of India’s national e-procurement platform. The move aligns with the Union Government’s broader strategy to ensure that all public procurement—across Central, State, and local levels—is routed through a single, transparent digital framework.

GeM CEO Mihir Kumar met Chief Secretary Anurag Jain in Bhopal to discuss strategies for deeper integration, improved vendor participation, and streamlined procurement processes. The discussion reaffirmed the goal of enhancing transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in the State’s public procurement ecosystem.

Aligning State Frameworks with National Standards

The meeting comes as part of a series of GeM’s nationwide engagements aimed at increasing adoption among States and Union Territories. The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has urged State governments to align their procurement policies with the General Financial Rules (GFR) and GeM General Terms and Conditions (GeM-GTC). He has also written to Chief Ministers and the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure procurement in Union Territories is routed exclusively through the GeM platform.

This alignment would help States benefit from real-time data analytics, competitive pricing, and process automation, which together can improve efficiency and fiscal discipline in public procurement.

Madhya Pradesh’s Expanding Digital Footprint on GeM

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a strong performer on the GeM platform, with over 86,000 sellers registered from the State. According to official data, MSMEs from Madhya Pradesh have secured orders worth ₹5,523 crore from State buyers, ₹2,030 crore from buyers in other States, and ₹20,298 crore from Central buyers.

This impressive participation underscores how GeM has become a catalyst for empowering small and medium enterprises, enabling them to access new markets and engage directly with government buyers nationwide.

Driving Fairness and Inclusion in Public Procurement

As GeM’s cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) continues to touch new milestones, its engagement with the Madhya Pradesh government marks a key step in deepening the reach of India’s digital procurement ecosystem. Both sides emphasised the importance of making procurement processes more inclusive, particularly for small businesses and local vendors.

GeM remains committed to fostering a procurement culture based on fairness, digital integrity, and inclusivity—ensuring that every vendor, regardless of size or location, can participate meaningfully in India’s transparent, technology-driven procurement framework. The collaboration with Madhya Pradesh is expected to serve as a model for other States aiming to achieve similar integration.
