The IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a rich heritage spanning over a century. It was founded on 7 September 1907 by several Indian merchants who came together to form the Swadeshi Institution to fight for the rights of Swadeshi businesses. This Chamber of Commerce is solely for the benefit of India’s business community and was also involved in several important political movements prior to independence. In recognition of the chamber’s contribution to nation-building, Mahatma Gandhi accepted his honorary membership in 1931. Since independence, IMC has played a key role in the consolidation of India’s business interests and the independence of the Indian economy. In recognition of the services of the Chamber of Commerce, the Government of India issued a centenary stamp.
