Ludhiana to Open MSME, SHG Product Outlet

Must Read

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Ludhiana is set to open a dedicated outlet for the promotion, display, and sale of products made by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and self-help groups (SHGs). This outlet will be established within the District Administrative Complex (DAC) under the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, aiming to provide market access and boost the visibility of local enterprises.

Boosting MSME and SHG Growth Under the ODOP Initiative

Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal has given the formal approval to set up the outlet and has directed officials to identify a suitable location within the DAC premises. The initiative aligns with the Centre’s ODOP program, which focuses on supporting MSMEs and SHGs while promoting the ‘Make in India’ vision. The project is part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) program, designed to strengthen MSME outreach, encourage innovation, and facilitate market expansion.

Jorwal stated, “The project aims to enhance the implementation capacity of MSMEs by promoting innovation, improving processes, enhancing market access, supporting green initiatives, and increasing guarantees for women-owned enterprises.” He also highlighted that the products created by artisans will be included in the kiosk’s offerings, expanding opportunities for traditional and rural businesses.

Funding and Implementation of the Project

To facilitate the launch, the Deputy Commissioner has approved a ₹15 lakh allocation for setting up the outlet, which will later be leased to a private operator for smooth operations. Industries and Commerce (I&C) Department officials have been instructed to compile a comprehensive directory of MSME and SHG products, ensuring proper representation of local businesses. Additionally, meetings will be organized with MSME and SHG representatives to discuss how they can leverage this dedicated sales platform.

Empowering Small Businesses and Local Artisans

The initiative is expected to empower MSMEs and SHGs by providing them with a stable retail space, direct customer access, and better brand visibility. By integrating these enterprises into the formal market structure, the government aims to accelerate entrepreneurship and economic development in the region.

The officials have been directed to fast-track the setup of the outlet, ensuring that MSMEs and SHGs can start showcasing their products at the earliest. The initiative marks a significant step towards fostering self-reliance and sustainable business growth for small enterprises and local artisans.
