The Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024, held at the International Exhibition and Convention Centre Moshi in Pune, has garnered immense attention with a footfall surpassing expectations. Organized by the Government of Maharashtra, the three-day event aims to showcase the prowess of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) alongside key players in the defense sector, including the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) laboratories and Defence Public Sector Units (DPSUs) based in Maharashtra.

Enthusiastic Student Participation Highlights Opportunities in Defence

On the second day alone, the Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024 witnessed an impressive attendance of over two lakh individuals, including a substantial turnout of 70,000 students. The event has been lauded for providing a platform to showcase the diverse capabilities of MSMEs and fostering collaboration between various stakeholders in the defense ecosystem.

Advocacy for MSMEs: Nurturing Innovation and Collaboration

Ganesh Ramesh Nibe, Founder of Nibe Limited, emphasized the pivotal role of MSMEs in India’s defense industry, advocating for increased collaboration and innovation. He remarked, “Facilitating avenues for knowledge exchange nurtures an environment where MSMEs can engage, collaborate, and innovate, laying the groundwork for their advancement.”

Government Commitment and Policy Revisions

During the inauguration ceremony, prominent figures such as Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Uday Samant reiterated the state’s commitment to bolstering the defense manufacturing sector. Fadnavis announced plans to revise Maharashtra’s Aerospace and Defence manufacturing policy, recognizing the need to adapt to evolving industry demands. Additionally, Samant revealed proposals to establish four Defence manufacturing clusters across Nagpur, Shirdi, Pune, and Ratnagiri, further emphasizing the state’s strategic focus on defense production.

Maharashtra’s Defence Manufacturing Landscape

Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024’s proactive measures in supporting MSMEs within the defense sector have yielded significant results, with the state witnessing substantial business growth and investment. Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s existing infrastructure, including 11 ordnance factories, 5 defense PSUs, and a state-of-the-art DRDO facility, underscoring Pune’s role as a technology hub ideal for fostering partnerships between MSMEs and PSUs.

The expo serves as a testament to Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024’s commitment to achieving self-reliance and indigenous innovation in defense manufacturing. Renowned industry leaders such as L&T, Mahindra, Tata, and DRDO have showcased their cutting-edge technologies, reaffirming Maharashtra’s emergence as a key player in the defense production landscape.

With the revised policy initiatives and continued support from the government, Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024 aims to attract more investment, create employment opportunities, and further strengthen its defense capabilities.
