The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises reports completion of 364 projects under the Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) since inception, out of 606 approved, with 242 ongoing to bolster Common Facility Centres (CFCs) and infrastructure upgrades. These demand-driven initiatives, proposed by states, target shared cluster needs like Industry 4.0 facilities, additive manufacturing, digital infrastructure, design/incubation centres, skill hubs, R&D labs and renewable energy systems—including greenfield CFCs for holistic MSME growth.
For MSME policymakers and cluster leads, MSE-CDP’s progress enhances productivity through shared tech adoption, reducing individual capital barriers and fostering resilience via AI, IoT and digital payments integration, aligned with Udyam registration, tool room training and green financing schemes. This infrastructure backbone positions clusters for e-commerce scale, last-mile connectivity via BharatNet/PM-WANI and datasets from IndiaAI platforms.
SFURTI Revitalises Traditional Industries Through 513 Clusters
The Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) has approved 513 clusters since 2015-16 with ₹1,332.95 crore government aid, benefiting 3.03 lakh artisans in handicrafts, handloom, agro-processing, coir and honey sectors; 378 clusters are functional, 135 under implementation. These efforts drive infrastructure, skills, value addition and market linkages, strengthening rural economies against urban migration pressures.
Strategically, SFURTI’s cluster model amplifies artisan scale via collective bargaining, digital onboarding and export readiness, complementing TEAM scheme incentives for ONDC integration—prioritising women-owned MSMEs for cataloguing, logistics and design support. As digitalisation surges MSME efficiency, SFURTI ensures traditional sectors capture e-commerce and global value chains without losing cultural IP.
Digital Ecosystem Powers MSME Transformation
Supporting schemes like DigiLocker, IndiaAI Datasets, MSME Innovative and MSE Green Investment embed digital incentives, capacity building and awareness to sustain competitiveness amid Industry 4.0 shifts. Minister Shobha Karandlaje’s Lok Sabha update affirms these as policy levers for resilient, sustainable MSMEs.
