MSMEs in Kashmir: NIT Srinagar Leads Awareness Programme

In a significant endorsement of the critical role played by MSMEs in bolstering employment, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar recently spearheaded an extensive awareness campaign. The week-long programme aimed at sensitizing MSMEs in Kashmir concluded successfully. It focused on various government schemes and registration drives.

Uplifting MSMEs: A Strategic Endeavor

Led by NIT Srinagar’s IIED Centre, the initiative received sponsorship from the Ministry of MSME, New Delhi. It encompassed multiple sessions held across Kashmir’s industrial clusters, including Ganderbal, Zakura, and Zainakote. The presence of key dignitaries and industry experts underscored the strategic importance of the programme.

Government-Industry Synergy for Economic Growth

Top officials, including Velladurai Jt Director MSME, J&K, and Dr. Saad Parvez, Head of IIEDC, emphasized MSMEs’ pivotal role as major employment generators in the region. They highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and fostering economic growth through strategic collaborations.

Harnessing Innovation for Traditional Crafts

The programme delved into technological interventions aimed at revitalizing traditional crafts, with a particular focus on artisanal industries like willow wicker and handicrafts. Experts discussed the potential of design innovation schemes in augmenting the quality and marketability of indigenous products.

Educational Outreach and Skill Development

Academic institutions, including IIM Jammu, pledged support for skill development initiatives and MSME projects. They reiterated their readiness to collaborate with local entrepreneurs, leveraging their expertise and resources for the region’s socio-economic advancement.
