New regional testing laboratory of CPRI at Nashik to help the regional manufacturers

Union Power minister of state, R. K Singh on Wednesday laid a foundation stone of regional testing laboratory of Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) at Nashik.

Due to this new regional testing laboratory of CPRI, Manufacturers in the western region will be benefitted more as they can test their products close to their manufacturing units. This will lessen the turnaround time and cost. This might help the power utilities in the country to install dependable and quality apparatus in the power system network.

Electrical components play a vital role in the power system network right from generation, transmission and distribution, such as electrical equipment needs to be tested and certified as per the national and international standards.

The insistence for electricity in the nation has increased quickly and is predictable to rise more in the years to come. In order to convene the rising demand for electricity in the nation, a huge addition to the installed generating ability is needed. This leads to the growth of electrical industries and development of indigenous products. Keeping this in mind, the Indian government has endorsed establishing Research and testing facilities in the western region at Nashik at an expenditure of Rs..115. 3 Cr.

The recommended new unit of CPRI at Nashik is being established on the land allotted by the Government of Maharashtra at Shilapur, Nashik. The unit in Nashik will have On-Line Short Circuit test facilities for switch fuse unit, Current Transformers, miniature circuit breakers, Transformers,  contractors, busducts, panels. In addition, state of the art, facilities are being established for Energy Meter (Both Smart Meter & Conventional Meter) and Transformer Oil.

The occasion was graced by Shri Chandrashekhar Krishnarao Bawankule, Minister for Energy, New & Renewable Energy and State Excise, Govt. Of  Maharashtra, and the people’s representatives from the area.
