Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal instructed 35 Export Promotion Councils and industry associations to intensify new market penetration, quality enhancements, and competitiveness improvements for optimal leverage of Free Trade Agreements with developed economies.
The directives emphasise job creation and export acceleration for goods and services benefiting farmers, workers, professionals, artisans, and MSMEs through preferential global access. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi administration prioritised agriculture and dairy sector protections alongside export opportunities for traditional medicines and yoga.
Export Promotion Mission Rolls Out Targeted Interventions
Industry leaders expressed appreciation for securing agreements with the United Kingdom, European Union, and United States. The US Executive Order of February 6, 2026 eliminated the additional 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, reinstating competitive positioning for exporters in India’s largest destination market. Goyal linked the trade portfolio to Viksit Bharat advancement and Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi’ philosophy integrating development with cultural heritage preservation.
The Export Promotion Mission delivers concrete support mechanisms including interest subvention for export credit loans, collateral guarantees extended specifically to MSMEs, and dedicated market access facilitation programmes. These interventions operationalise government commitments to restoring and expanding India’s historic international trade footprint from ancient maritime networks to contemporary global partnerships.
