With over 2,400 delegates from more than 80 countries, 117 eminent speakers, and 208 exhibitors, the conference promises to be a grand affair.
Organized by the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) in partnership with the Coffee Board of India, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Government of India, the Government of Karnataka, and other coffee industry stakeholders, the event has garnered significant attention. Union Minister of Commerce, Piyush Goyal, and the CEO and Secretary of the Coffee Board of India, K G Jagadeesha, inaugurated the event.
The World Coffee Conference not only signifies India’s stature as a rising coffee producer but has also seen over 10,000 visitors and facilitates 300 business-to-business meetings.
H2: WCC’s Vision for Coffee in India
The conference envisions India’s meteoric rise in coffee exports. With the CEO emphasizing the premium status of Indian coffee, and the Minister highlighting that our brews now rival even the acclaimed Colombian ones, India’s coffee prowess is clear.
This gathering not only celebrates the legacy of Indian coffee but also fosters discussions about India’s journey towards becoming the world’s top coffee exporter.
India’s Stance in Global Coffee Exports
Key Export Figures
In 2022, India marked its presence with an export figure of 399,000 tonnes of coffee. With Robusta coffee leading the pack, it contributes to over 70% of this production. Astoundingly, the country exports a significant 70% of its total coffee yield.
Regional Contributions
Karnataka and Kerala are the giants in this narrative. These states collectively account for a lion’s share of 90% in India’s coffee exports. But there’s more to the story. While these states enjoy the limelight, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh aren’t far behind. Tamil Nadu specializes in Arabica coffee, and Andhra Pradesh is known for its Araku variant.
In Karnataka, the district of Kodagu deserves a special mention, leading with 44% of the coffee plantations. Chikmagalur, Hassan, Shimoga, and Mysore follow suit.
