Rockford Kids Academy in Pune began as a deeply personal mission. Before it became a modern, thoughtfully designed preschool, it was simply a mother searching for a space that understood a child’s needs. Its founder, Mrs. Ruchi Tiwari, turned that gap into an opportunity. Her corporate background, engineering discipline, and experience as a parent shaped a preschool built on structure, quality, and emotional intelligence. What stands today is the outcome of years of preparation, learning, and determination to build something better for her child and for the community.
Q&A With Mrs. Ruchi Tiwari, Founder and Director, Rockford Kids Academy
What inspired you to start Rockford Kids Academy?
The idea began when I struggled to find a quality preschool for my own son. I saw a gap in both teaching standards and child-friendly infrastructure. Since then, I have been preparing, learning, and planning. Seeing Rockford Kids Academy finally come alive and be embraced by parents and children feels incredibly fulfilling. It proves the dream was worth chasing.
What is the core philosophy that guides your approach to early childhood education?
Our philosophy is simple, early childhood should be joyful, nurturing and full of discovery. We focus on holistic development through play, exploration and strong age-appropriate learning practices. When children feel safe, loved and encouraged, they naturally thrive and that guides everything we do.
What unique features or teaching methods make Rockford Kids Academy stand out?
We stand out with research-based teaching and our unique ‘Experience Lab’ that inspires hands-on learning. Our teachers undergo continuous training to deliver consistently high-quality education, and the trainings are conducted through a partnership with a specialised early-years education expert organisation.
We provide structured, research-based training modules for our teachers, ensuring they stay updated with modern teaching practices, child psychology, safety standards and classroom management techniques. This collaboration helps us maintain consistent quality across our teaching team and ensures that every educator at Rockford is equipped to give children the best learning experience. World-class safety, hygiene and eco-friendly infrastructure ensure a secure, nurturing environment for every child.
What is your teaching approach and how does it support children’s development?
We follow a play-based learning approach where children move from concrete, hands-on experiences to abstract understanding.
Our philosophy is shaped by three pillars:
- Hands-on exploration through sensory play, role play, and activity-based tasks
- Child-centred learning that allows each child to grow at their own pace
- Holistic development that balances early academics with emotional, social, and behavioural growth
What major challenges did you face as a woman entrepreneur, and how did you overcome them?
I fought gender bias constantly needing to prove myself in strategy, finance and leadership when people didn’t expect a woman to lead, I also had to juggle societal pressure to prioritise family over ambition and learn to set firm boundaries without guilt. I overcame it by trusting my vision, staying prepared and standing strong in my decisions, and that’s how Rockford Kids Academy came to be.
How has your professional background influenced the creation of Rockford Kids Academy?
I am a mechanical engineer with 19 years of corporate experience, and that background played a significant role in shaping Rockford Kids Academy. My corporate career instilled in me discipline, strong processes, leadership and a commitment to quality, all of which are essential for building a well-structured and reliable preschool.
When I became a parent and began exploring preschools for my son, I noticed gaps in infrastructure and teaching methods. It was then that I realised I could leverage my professional experience to create something far better. Rockford Kids Academy is the result of this blend of my corporate expertise, problem solving mind-set and a passion for providing children with a modern, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment.
What message do you want our readers to take away from your story?
